How to make your own choker

Chokers may be outdated this 2017. But honestly I still love them. This choker trend started during the 90s era. Though I sported this choker thing back in the early 2000s but not the thick ones that’s trending from last year like the ones you see from Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.

I started to wear this trend wayback early 2016 but I never EVER bought one. I made one for myself instead.
As you can see on the photos below. That’s the very first choker that I made.

And on today’s blog I’ll show you how I made my very first choker. 🙂

All you need is a ribbon (I personally prefer at least an inch thick), a roll of thread (preferably the same color of your ribbon), a needle, and a metal hook and eye.
1. First, is you measure your ribbon around your neck and leave at least an 2 inches allowance then mark it and cut it slightly diagonally so the ribbon won’t go “feathery” and loose its texture at the ends.

(photo from google)
2. Next is to prepare your thread and needle. Ideally the length of the thread is 20 inches but what I do is I measure it vertically around my arm. From my fingers holding the thread down to my elbow then back to my fingers holding the thread. (This shouldn’t be hard)

  1. Using your ribbon, ensure that what’s on the top is the ones you prefer to be in front then fold a few centimeters inward and start stitching the metal hook. Same fold on the other end of the ribbon where you need to stitch the metal eye.
(I am using the larger hook & eye. I prefer this if your ribbon is thick)
  2. Finally the finished product! I made 3 chokers just earlier today and here they are.

Few tips on wearing your chokers. You can also pair it with a necklace of your choice and it looks edgy when you’re wearing a tube top, a v-neck, a low round neck, an off-shoulder or any clothing that exposes your clavicle or shoulders.

That’s it for today’s blog. Thanks again for reading! 😉

Tuesday Top 3: My Go-To Blushes

It has really been hectic day starting from work, then I took my daughter shopping and dealing with the heavy traffic! Traffic’s really worst when it’s raining.

But I don’t want to highlight my hectic day but instead I want to talk about Blushes! Though I’m not really a fan of putting blush (blush on) coz I’m a contour devotee. But… In my case it is deemed necessary because I’m a pale kinda gal. If I go out there without blush on or lipstick, I literally look like a sick kid.

On today’s Tuesday Top Three, I want to share to you guys My Go-To Blushes that I have tried and really works for me if I’m in a hurry and I’m pretty pretty sure that this’ll do it for the working girls out there or students on the go.

1. Avon Flavor Savers lip balm in Bubblegum

I discovered this one when I was in Senior High School. I just noticed that my lip balm really doesn’t do the trick only on my lips. I still look pale with my face powder on and my Avon Flavor Savers on my lips. I tried dabbing the lip balm on my upper cheek bone going upwards. And my! Highlighter was not a thing during that time but it looked like I had blush slash highlighter on my cheek bones. It kind of gave me a warm glow and a lot of my friends noticed it too. (Note: No skin break out happened)
2. Sophie Magic Pink Cream

This pink goodie can be used as a lip tint and blush. But on my case it doesn’t work for me as a lip tint that will last all say. But… It does it’s magic on my cheeks. It’s very smooth and easy to apply. It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing your concealer, bb cream or already mattified your face with powder, the Sophie Magic Pink Cream will glide smoothly on your face. And works well from dry to oily skin but not on too oily skin I suppose. It’s like an instant magic blush and I recommend it.
3. Revlon Matte Balm + Pond’s Age defying Cream

Last but not least, I created my own cream blush. It’s been an old school beauty hack to use your lipstick as a blush on too. And I know almost all of us girls (plus our moms) have tried this trick. But to make it a lot easier with extra moisturizing benefits I am using Pond’s Age Defying Cream together with my Revlon Matte Balm in Showy. These products are for my personal recommendation only. You are free to use whatever lipstick you have or facial cream that you prefer. You just have to dab the lipstick on your finger and apply it on your cheeks then dab a very tiny amount of moisturizer to smoothen out the lipstick blush on your cheeks. And that’s it!

I hope you have enjoyed reading this blog as much as I enjoyed sharing my Go-To Blushes. I would like to know your blush hacks too or your ideas by leaving it on the comments section. Thanks again for reading! 😉

Five Friday Faves: Ways to clean your makeup brushes

Makeup brushes and sponges are tools that are very essential for me when I do my makeup and I’m pretty sure that all of the makeup lovers out there would agree with me or for some it’s the holy grail of makeup application. Though I admit that I still use my hands when I apply my foundation, concealer, blush and eye shadow.

And I just wanted to highlight the importance of cleaning your makeup brushes/sponges.
How dirty brushes affect your skin
While your bristles pick up pigments, they also collect dirt, oil, and bacteria—and this affects Beauties with sensitive or acne-prone skin the most! “This buildup can be transferred to your skin and cause breakouts,” says Dr. Tanzi. The risk of infection is lower with blush and face powder brushes since they are not coming in contact with wet areas like the eyes and mouth, which can harbor more bacteria and viruses.

Having that said, I honestly don’t clean my makeup brushes once a week. Sometimes it takes a month for me to clean it. What I do is every time after I use it, I dab my brush on a cotton ball with toner on it. And I suggest for you guys not to do what I do.

Before I really don’t know how to clean my makeup brushes, so what I do was I pour makeup remover on each brush and clean the bristles using my fingers on running water. It does the job but it does take a toll on my makeup remover too. Since then I’ve done some research of how to clean your makeup brushes the “home made way” since I really don’t want to spend big on makeup cleaners. (My mindset was: I’m not a makeup pro to spend a lot on those kinda stuff) Soooo, here are my Five Friday Faves that show Ways to clean your makeup brushes.

1. Cleaning makeup brushes using a dishwashing liquid and extra virgin olive oil
The video below is an old school youtube tutorial from Michelle Phan and until now I still do this kind of cleaning with my makeup brushes. Personally I use baby oil instead of
extra virgin olive oil. I recommend this tutorial because the dishwashing liquid disinfects while the oil conditions the brushes.

2. Cleaning makeup brushes using baby shampoo + warm water

Basically the concept from the first video is just the same. But I rarely do this since I don’t have a stock of baby shampoo at home and would not use adult shampoo as an alternative since it has different chemicals on it. I recommend this because the baby shampoo is mild on the hair and warm water removes bacteria. Note:WARM not Hot. Hot water might cause the bristles of the brush to fall out.

3. Cleaning makeup brushes with Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser + MakeUp Washing Brush Egg
I honestly don’t knoe where to buy the Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser besides online but I personally think that you can use baby soap instead. I just purchased a MakeUp Washing Brush Egg but haven’t used it. On this video it’s finally making sense to me now. And for me, among these 5 ways to clean your makeup brushes, this is my most favorite way to clean makeup brushes. I really really recommend this tutorial and having the MakeUp Washing Brush Egg.

4. Cleaning makeup brushes with makeup remover + kitchen towel
Now why kitchen towel instead of a regular tissue? It’s because a kitchen towel does not tear easily. I use this method if I’m too lazy to prep materials and go to the kitchen sink. The video below is as easy as 1-2-3, but I have to admit it’s somehow a waste of makeup remover/cleanser.

5. Cleaning makeup brushes with dishwashing liquid + makeup remover + baby oil and the MakeUp Washing Brush Egg
Last but not least. My own MakeUp brushes/sponge cleansing technique. I don’t have it on video since I’m blogging from the hospital right now (and I am recovering). My technique is like a mash up of the tutorials 1 to 4. As seen on the photo that I created below. These are the tools to be used.

So, on a clean tray or plate (preferrably white) pour the dishwashing liquid (40%), baby oil (40%), and makeup remover (20%). I did include percentages on them just for you to gauge the amount of product to put on the plate or tray. Then, grab all your dirty makeup brushes and sponges and put them aside near the tray/plate then one by one, starting with your brush, swipe the mixture in circular motion, once you have a thick consistency with the makeup residue, grab your makeup washing brush egg and brush it under running tap water. And place your cleaned brush on a neat towel or kitchen towel aside if you prefer. I do recommend to clean all the brushes first and then make another set of mixture for the sponges. The difference of the cleansing technique with the sponges is that you have to squeeze it several times to ensure that all of those makeup residue are out and brush it on the makeup washing brush egg.

And there you go! I hope today’s blog made you realize how important it is and how easy it is to clean your makeup brushes and sponges because it’s for your own skin. I want to know your ideas too by leaving it on the comments section below. Thanks again for reading! 😉

Tuesday Top 3: Things I’d tell to my teenage-self

On today’s blog post I’m not sharing any beauty products that I love but instead, it will be beauty tips or advices that I want to tell to my teenage-self.

Don’t touch your own eyebrows!
When I was in high school I’m very curious in trying a lot of things on my face. I tried shaving my eyebrows too thin and accidentally shaved almost half of my left (or right I can’t remember) eyebrow. So I ended up regrowing them but still I plucked and maintained my eyebrows too thin.

I want to tell my teenage-self to have a professional do her eye brows and ask for maintenance tips.

Drink lotsa water!
I’m so fond of drinking coffee and more milk tea that I tend to forget to drink water. Water relieves Fatigue, treats Headaches and Migraines (i have it before or during that time of the month), it helps in Digestion and Constipation, it flushes Out Toxins too.

According to some research that I did, water helps in improving skin too. I’ll tell my teenage-self then “Hey! Don’t skip the water!”

Don’t do that to your clothes
Way back, I used to to cut or tear (not all) my clothes to make something unique and it really ended up not really good.

So to my teenage-self, don’t do that! Trends are come and go and sometimes it even returns like that flared pants, don’t alter it too make it look like skinny jeans.

That’s all for today. How about you guys? What would you advise to your old teenage-self? I want to know your ideas by leaving it on the comments section below. Thanks again for reading! 😉

App of the week: ColorStory

Recently, I’ve been fond of photo editing apps. Last week I blogged PicsArt (Click here to read App of the week: PicsArt) as one of my favorite apps.

And for this week it’s another photo editing app which is called ColorStory. I provided some screenshots below how you can start the app.

The difference of ColorStory from other apps with presets or filters is that you can save a certain filter, effects and any photo adjustments that you used on one photo and use it on the next photo that you’re about to edit. Cool right?!

I’ve tried editing few photos using ColorStory app from my camera roll as shown below and I’m still on the experimental stage of using this photo editing app.

The only downside of ColorStory is that this app has lots of nice filters and effects that you need to purchase. The free filter sets that you can get are only Essentials and Good Vibes while for the effects is only the Starter.
Used Color Fog 2 Effect + Flip
Used Color Fog 1 Effect + Flip

I still recommend ColorStory app for starters and use it instantly to put a cool filter and effect on your pictures right away before you upload it to make your photo Instagram worthy! 🙂

There you have it guys! Let me know what you think about the app my leaving your comments below. Thanks again for reading! 😉

Five Friday Faves: Eating like a model

People nowadays are somehow conscious with their health and bodies. Being fit is now actually a trend which is actually good and having a role model for being fit is actually good.

As for me, I am slim but I still believe I should watch what I eat and still workout to increase my endurance and boost my immune system. I’m a strong believer that being slim and just eating healthy is not about starving yourself to be accepted by society, but instead you’re doing it because you know it benefits your body.

So today I researched what my five favorite models eat and just to get some ideas pf eating healthy. In order to eat healthy, it doesn’t have to be exact as what they eat but at least you’ll have a gist of creating your own menu for a healthy diet. And here you go:

  1. Taylor Hill
She’s one of my newest favorite American model. I first saw her on Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2015. She was discovered in a barn (you read that right) and started print ads for Forever 21.

    “For breakfast I had:
 Yogurt parfait.
    For lunch I had:
 A ham sandwich.
    For dinner I had:
 Chicken and vegetables, yum!
    Today I snacked on:
 Almonds.
    My signature healthy smoothie is:
Bananas, strawberries, peanut butter, yogurt, and ice.

  1. Irina Shayk
I first saw her on Armani fashion shows and then on a Sports Illustrated magazine. This Russian beauty. She was also the 1st Russian model that graced the cover in 2011 and Models.com

What are some of Irina Shayk’s eating habits? Shayk stays away from caffeine and drinks plenty of water, fresh green juices, and green tea throughout the day. Shayk’s other healthy food favorites include oatmeal, kefir, hot lemon water, soups, vegetables, and fruits. For lunch, Shayk may consume a green salad with fish or chicken. For dinner, she may eat fish, chicken, or turkey breast with lentils.

  2. Miranda Kerr
She is my model peg for life! Many models are very famous nowadays but Miranda is just remarkable. When I first saw her on Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show I know she will be an instant VS Angel. And she is just an advocate of everything organic and healthy.

    Miranda’s day on a plate
First thing: “My morning routine starts with warm water and lemon, then a protein shake.”
Breakfast: “Eggs over easy, avocado, sauerkraut, sea salt and macadamia nut oil.
    Lunch: “Grilled chicken and salad.”
Dinner: “Quinoa salad with chicken cooked in coconut oil and turmeric, with a spinach and walnut salad.”
Snacks: “Blueberries, almonds or goji berries. I also love an apple with some almond butter.”

  3. Gigi Hadid
I first admired Gigi when I saw her on one of the print ads for Guess. I did not really know her name wayback then until she started stepping up her game. Started modeling for Tom Ford, Max Mara, Balmain, Victoria’s Secret and Tommy Hilfiger.

BREAKFAST
Gigi’s mornings start out pretty typical: “I usually eat breakfast or have coffee before I do anything,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “I live near the Smile, and I love their scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. I drink orange juice and coffee always.”
LUNCH
Gigi typically works out in the mornings, so by lunch, girlfriend is hungry. “My personal motto is: ‘Eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane,'” she said (adopting that for ourselves ASAP). “So if I’m in the mood I’ll go to JG Melon in the West Village.” If she’s eating clean that day, it’s back to the Smile for lunch. “They have a little arugula salad that I could eat every day,” she said.
SNACKS
If you didn’t love her before, you’ll really love her now: Gigi’s go-to afternoon snack is ice cream. “There used to be an Emack & Bolio’s on Houston Street, which is my favorite ice-cream place. I love the Grasshopper Pie,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “One day it was closed and I almost cried. Now I’ll just Postmate pints of it to my apartment.”
DINNER
Gigi loves to “cook and watch a movie,” but if she’s headed out, it’s to “Bond Street for sushi.”

  1. Kendall Jenner
This reality tv star turned to model is definitely skyrocketing in the fashion industry. Many people were saying she’s only famous because of her family’s background. But I believe she has the looks and absolutely killing it on the runway and covers in the fashion industry.

Drinking green tea every day is part of her healthy diet. The tea helped Jenner lose 15 pounds before she walked the catwalk for Chanel’s spring lineup in January. This is likely due to green tea’s EGCG content—it’s a powerful antioxidant that can help people lose weight when they drink the tea regularly.
But one of her other secrets to losing weight and keeping it off is to have a shot of apple cider vinegar every day. Apple cider vinegar has long been used for many health ailments and weight loss; however, while anecdotal evidence supports these claims, there is little scientific research to substantiate it.
Another diet trick that helped Kendall Jenner lose weight was to eat fiber first thing in the morning and load up on it so that she remained full for hours after. A typical breakfast for her was oatmeal with eggs and avocado. Eggs and oatmeal are a common combination for athletes and weightlifters because of the high protein/carb combination.

And there you have it! Personally, I got addicted to Chinese Pu Erh tea. I’ll prolly go back to drinking it again everyday. By the way there’s a proper way of drinking tea and I’ll blog it anytime soon. Also I’m planning to do my food groceries again and stop buying fast food. It’s just sometimes I can’t stop myself from eating fried or garlic rice for breakfast with scrambled eggs or my Mc Donald’s brekky craving such as the Egg Mc muffin and then I put hashbrown together with the cheese and egg.

But guys, eating healthy is not about depriving yourself from your favorite foods. It’s just that I believe we can start that little by little then perhaps it’s best to schedule a cheat day. Don’t you think?
Well guys I hope this blog gave you an idea how you can start eating healthy and how are you going to incorporate those healthy food in your usual diet. Thanks again for reading! 😉

No Makeup MakeUp look

So today I decided to stick to nude colors to achieve this No MakeUp MakeUp Look.  I did not put too much on my eyes today and skipped the eye liner. But for my eye brows I have to fill in all the spaces there since I also colored it when I dyed my hair and it looks like I don’t have my eye brows. (I miss my old eye brows)

img_0276Also, I had my hair braided today by one of my friends at work (thanks Jenn!). I have listed below the products that I have used for today’s No Makeup Makeup Look.
img_0277Eyebrows: BYS Eye Shadow Powder
Eyelids: LA Girl Nude Eye Shadow Palette
Eye lashes: Maybelline HyperCurl
Lippie: Maybelline Matte lipstick in Darlingly Nude
Cheeks:Revlon Matte Balm in Showy

Face: NYX Stay Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation
That’s all for today. Just a quick tip, this No MakeUp Makeup Look always depends on your skin tone and don’t ever ever skip the blush and the lips. You don’t want to look sick. The goal is to look effortlessly natural and fresh. I want to hear more of your ideas by leaving it on the comments section below. Thanks again for reading! 😉

Tuesday Top 3: Must-Rush Makeup

Back in my high school days I remember that I’m really not into so much makeup. When I stepped into junior high I started fixing myself and my must-haves are: lip balm, face powder and sometimes an eye liner and that’s it!

Growing up I discover new stuff about beauty and it’s just overwhelming that nowadays there are lot of stuff that you can put on your face especially makeup. It’s as fast-paced as technology.

Way back then, makeup is just about covering imperfections and enhance a few features on the face. But now, there’s contouring, strobing and etcetera! And sometimes when I do my basic makeup, the basic doesn’t feel so basic anymore. I put on my concealer, foundation powder, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, blush, lipstick and sometimes even contour!

There also those in-a-rush days or lazy days wherein I don’t really pay much attention to my face but still care to look presentable. Or rather put an effort not looking pale or sick.

  1. Eye brow pencil
The eye brows literally frames the face and it can actually do a manor change on how your face actually looks. Personally, I go from my natural shaped eye brows with a slight arch to full eye brows. Depending on my mood actually.

I’m not really particular when it comes to brand of eye brow pencil but A few good brands that I have used are NYX, BYS and Clinique. I was supposed to put mascara here but… Eye lashes doesn’t really have a huge face framing factor unlike your eye brows which really is a game changer. #EyeBrowsForLife
  2. Foundation powder
I am literally the Queen of Oiliness. And I just can’t go on with my life without a good foundation powder that will help me get through the day with minimal touch ups.
Right now I am using NYX Stay Matte not Flat Powder Foundation and ELF Two-way Foundation Powder.
  3. Lipstick
I’m a sick-looking kid without lipstick. That’s why I make sure I always have one one on me. For a bolder look I always go for those shades that are dark red, burgundy or close to maroon. I’m not into shiny lippies. I actually go with something creamy to matte finish. And I double the duty by applying it as a blush too.

Right now my dual purpose lipsticks are Revlon Matte Balm in Showy and Maybelline Matte lipstick in Ravishing Rose and my go-to red lippies up to date are Jordana Matte lipstick in Berry and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Prague. (Disclaimer: Prague is not actually red. It’s actually dark pink in color. And it may look red for some)

And that’s for my Tuesday Top 3 for this week. I want to know your top 3 makeup must-haves too and your makeup recommendations for those lazy days by sharing it on the comments section below. Thanks again for reading! 😉
